Dressy or casual, Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has style all his own
Drew Jones and Kliff Kingsbury go back to the Arizona Cardinals head coach's Texas Tech days. As that school's head coach before his NFL career started, Kingsbury was looking for a custom clothier.
A mutual acquaintance suggested Jones' company, Harper + Jones. A meeting was set up, and years later, the relationship continues with Kingsbury sporting custom-made garments from the Dallas-based purveyor that handcrafts its clothes with high quality fabrics.
Jones said Kingsbury was into three-piece suits early on in his coaching career. His style has evolved into more casual wear with sport coats, light jackets, and five-pocket chino pants, though custom suits are still part of the wardrobe.
“All of his professional wear is Harper and Jones and now a lot of his casual wear is Harper and Jones,” Jones said, “and he’s just open to my suggestions and mixing and matching, and he’s taken a little bit more risk over the last couple of years, which is then a lot of fun.”
"I would call Kliff a modern gentleman, for sure. But he appreciates the classics," Jones said. "Kliff is one of those guys where, you know, he wants to delegate things so he can just focus on football. So having me focused on his wardrobe allows him to not have to think about that."
Jones goes into Kingsbury's closet twice a year to organize looks for the spring/summer (non-football) season and fall/winter. Of course, much of what Kingsbury wears for work is issued by the Cardinals and the NFL.
"All of his professional wear is Harper and Jones and now a lot of his casual wear is Harper and Jones," Jones said, "and he's just open to my suggestions and mixing and matching, and he's taken a little bit more risk over the last couple of years, which is then a lot of fun."
Cardinals fans will recall the image of Kingsbury lounging on a couch inside his Scottsdale home with a spectacular backdrop and sweeping outdoor views watching the 2020 NFL Draft. The casualwear outfit Kingsbury wore in the photo that went viral is from Harper & Jones.
